Subject: Heritage Minutes

I am writing to you to tell you how the Heritage Minutes Features on television have passed on information to me about the history of this great land of ours.

I was in my Canadian history class and we were having a discussion about your Heritage Minutes. Until then, I never stopped to realize how much I had learned about the history of Canada from watching your productions on TV. They highlight almost the entire history of Canada from the Underground Railroad to the Avro Aero and from the Halifax Explosion to the current Canadian Flag. There are even segments on sports and technology.

They are presented as mini documentaries in an interesting and informative manner. These minutes help kids, new immigrants and others learn about the history of Canada in a way that doesn’t feel like an actual lesson. The backgrounds and scenery, costumes and actors all give the viewer a sense that they are actually witnessing that particular moment in history. After watching different segments, I’ve often thought to myself, “Gee, I didn’t know that! Some minutes are even very touching; the one about the Irish orphans asking to keep their Irish names is very sad. The minute about the woman from Nova Scotia in the Resistance who became a Gestapo prisoner and other war moments show examples of Canadian heroism that make me feel proud to be a Canadian.

The Heritage Minutes offer insight into pieces of Canadian History that most people are not aware of. They present interesting and unique facts that are not often taught in schools but are important lessons about our heritage and history. I look forward to continuing to learn from your hard work.
